As the Director of the Digital Youth Network, Akili brings close to 10 years experience in web and new media to DYN. This experience has uniquely positioned him to support Dr. Pinkard and the DYN team in creating DYN's 'hybrid model', connecting classroom, afterschool and home activities.
Akili's current focus with DYN is around the design and development of online tools and social spaces providing increased learning opportunities for students. This includes Remix World, DYN's new media driven social network, a virtual world - Remix World 3D (in partnership with Quest Atlantis), a student media profile tool and more.
In addition, Akili is focused on establishing and sustaining increased strategic partnerships. Our extended partnerships with organizations like the Common Ground Foundation, Volcalo.org, and the International Feature Project are crucial to DYN providing broad and deep experiences in media for our students.
Prior to joining Digital Youth, Akili served as the Associate Director for New Media and Technology for a sizeable Chicago not for profit. He worked to leverage IT and new media resources to support the organization's infrastructure as well as their marketing and communication goals. As the Director of the Digital Youth Program, Akili aims to support youth perspective and skill development that students similarly will be able to leverage for their own personal, academic, and professional advancement.
Akili received a B.A. in Computing and Information Systems from Northwestern University.
